Worship Team
Interested in joining the worship team at New Community Church?
We highly value the place of corporate worship in our Sunday meetings and recognise that the worship team are in a more public serving role than most other roles so we're looking at three areas for anyone coming onto the worship team - Character, Community and Competency.
Have a read below!
Character.
Do you love Jesus? Are you committed to growing spiritually? Do we see evidence of honesty, teachability, humility, a healthy work ethic, and a willingness to learn? We’re not looking for perfection, but someone walking with Jesus.
We will check in with your community leader on this one initially, but it also runs deeper. Will you ask for and accept feedback after a meeting to see how you can improve for next time? Do you demonstrate that kind of humility? That’s character.
Community.
This is demonstrated through things like, are you already serving and getting stuck-in to life at New Community? Are you regularly attending a community? Are you a member, or looking to do our DNA (membership) course?
Why are these things important? There are lots of things that we highly value, and we want to know that anyone joining the worship team understands and values those same things.
Community also contains a practical element. Are you committed? Will you be reliable? If we get you on a rota, do we have confidence you’ll turn up on time?
Competency.
This is about your skill. Someone with high skill helps people worship. Someone with medium skill sometimes has a neutral effect, it doesn’t necessarily add loads, but it also doesn’t get in the way of worship. Someone with low skill can be an obstacle to others worshipping, by singing off-key, playing out of time or playing the wrong notes – this can be a major distraction for those worshipping.
To gauge your competency, we will likely ask to hear you play or sing, or invite you along to a context where you can do this.
Having read the above, if you think you’d like to chat to one of our Worship Core Team about your next steps to joining a Sunday worship team, please complete this Form and someone will be in touch with you!
Thank you!
