The corona virus outbreak is effecting all of us in many ways, including how and when we can 'gather' together. We are closely monitoring government guidelines, formulating plans accordingly and will be using this page for communicating regular updates. Keep checking back here regularly for updates on everything from Sunday Live-Stream times (it's 10.30 btw 😜) to food bank volunteer news. Updates 👇

UPDATE: Letter from James

*Calling the church to pray, responding to recent events*

Dear friends,

As you know, for a number of years now we have talked about the type of church we believe God has called us to be. We see in the book of Revelation a great multitude that no one can number from every tribe and tongue and we recognise that that is our future, that’s where we are heading. Right now, we are supposed to be a prophetic statement of what is to come. We cannot do this perfectly but as imperfectly as we can, we’re supposed to increasingly look like a beautifully diverse yet deeply united people, a “new community” of believers from across a wide range of backgrounds.

By God’s grace, we have come a long way in this journey, but we recognise we still have a long way to go. You can watch back the Race and Grace series that we recorded late last year, it is as relevant now as it has ever been. We have no doubt got a number of things wrong and likely will do again in the future, we’re on a journey and we’re learning.

The events of the last week have brought into stark focus that the issue of racial injustice has not gone away. We have all watched with horror, grief and anger the pictures on our news and in our social media feeds.

As Andrew Wilson has helpfully written, whilst it can be hard to know specifically what to say or do, there are at least four things we can do; grieve, learn, speak and pray.

We’re calling the whole church to respond in prayer on Wednesday night at our Venue Prayer meetings, where I will address this subject a little bit further, and I really encourage you to be there this week and over the coming weeks as we continue to pray together.

You can also watch the latest episode of our podcast, as I had a conversation with a dear friend of mine, Pastor Paul Ilo from Higher Place Church, about this topic and our response as a church.

See you Wednesday, the best is yet to come.

With love,

James

UPDATE: CHURCH RHYTHMS

*Changing Our Weekly Rhythm*

As we talked about at the beginning of lockdown (many weeks ago now!) we want to encourage everyone who calls New Community home to cultivate daily habits and weekly rhythms.

After 9 weeks, we felt that it was time to make a change to our weekly rhythms as a church and introduce Venue Prayer Meetings and Teaching Nights, where we will dive into some subjects we haven't got space for on a Sunday. These nights will include teaching, discussion and opportunity to pray together.

From the beginning of June, the weekly rhythm will look like this:

03 June: Venue prayer meeting

10 June: Teaching night #1 "Christians and the Environment"

17 June One Church prayer meeting

01 July: Venue prayer meeting

08 July: Teaching night #2

15 July: One Church prayer meeting to “end the summer term”

All details and links to Zoom will be sent out via Communities and email. Make sure you are connected in so you don't miss out.

UPDATE: WEDNESDAY 25 MARCH [15:33]

*Prayer Meeting Tonight (Wednesday!)*.

Tonight we will be gathering together to pray at 8pm. In some ways it will be like no other prayer meeting we’ve ever had as we will all be gathering online. In other ways it will be just like any other prayer meeting, as we gather as a family to connect with God, who is the same yesterday, today and forever.

The prayer meeting will go for around 45-50 minutes and you can access it via something called Zoom…

There are TWO things you need to do:

1. Install Zoom on a computer/smartphone/tablet, you can download it here.

2. Join the Zoom meeting by opening the link that we have sent you via email. (After 4pm today). Please ensure that your email address is correct in ChurchSuite and that you have ticked the correct box to give us permission to email you!

The prayer meeting will begin at 8pm, so make sure to join the meeting nice and early (between 7.30-8pm you’ll see a waiting room screen and then at 8pm you’ll see everyone’s faces!)

This will be something very new to us so if there are some teething problems we’ll all laugh about it and hopefully improve for next time!

See you tonight!

*Online Communities - How to guide*.

Thankfully we live in a time where we have the technology available that allows us to connect as communities online! But we know this isn't easy for everyone so the team are working hard behind the scenes creating a helpful step by step guide so that as many of us as possible can connect in community online.

We are putting together a guide for how to run an online community and you can find the first installment here.

UPDATE: WEDNESDAY 18 MARCH [15:30]

*All Sunday meetings are currently cancelled*.

In response to the latest government guidance, we have taken the decision to cancel all Sunday meetings and midweek groups. Even though we cannot physically meet, we will continue to be the church and are moving online. Join us from home as we gather online all-together on:

Sundays @ 10.30 for a live-streamed service that will include all the normal elements of a Sunday meeting

Wednesdays @ 20.00 for a live-streamed gathering focusing on prayer and worship (starts 25 March)

The live-streaming link and instructions will appear here in advance of the online services.

Communities

We think remaining in Communities is crucial. Even though we will not be able to meet in groups physically, they are still the primary place where we do life-together, pastorally care for and encourage and stay in connection with one another. Community leaders will be in touch with their Communities about the practical how of Community life in this new way of doing church. If you are not yet in a Community, please sign up to one as soon as possible.

Pastoral Care

If you have a pastoral need, please, in the first instance, contact your Community Leader. You can also fill in this form here and we will do our best to help you.

Pray

We want to respond to this situation with faith not fear. Please pray for those affected by this virus, those in the healthcare sector and for those in governing authority over us. Pray that we would be a Church who loves, serves and cares for people.

Serving People

One very practical thing you could consider doing is to reach out to your neighbours to see if you can help them in any way practically. Here is a card you can print at home to use & at the end of this week we’ll distribute flyers you can send out.

See you online on Sunday and throughout the week!

We will update this section of our website regularly as we have new information and guidance, please check back again soon and keep your contact details updated via ChurchSuite so that we can stay in touch with you.

UPDATE: TUESDAY 17 MARCH [18:00]

Please check back soon and keep your contact details updated via ChurchSuite so that we can stay in touch with you.

Self-isolating and need support? Anxious and want prayer? Please get in touch.
