Rooted in the Word

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
(Matthew 4:4)
“Nobody ever outgrows Scripture; the book widens and deepens with our years.”

“The Holy Scriptures are our letters from home.”
- Augustine of Hippo
What does the Bible do?
Using Psalm 19:7-9, we see that the Bible;
- Makes us alive - The Law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul (v7)
- Makes us to be wise - The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple (v7)
- Gives us joy - the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart (v8)
- Gives us clarity - the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes (v8)
- Helps us to be pure - the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever (v9)
- Helps us to be godly - the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether (v9)
